Darn, darn, and smoke

The first week in the house started with me getting a mild cold. Darn. Nevertheless I finished the Baby Skaug quilt last night.

The last thing I want is to make Nicole sick during her final month of pregnancy I will stay home, Dick will deliver the gift and stand in for me at the baby shower.

The second “darn” of this post: I really wanted to go. (The dotted fabric was the reverse side of the quilt picked out by Grandpa Dick.  When he went a second time to Joann's Fabrics to buy more embroidery floss, the clerks remembered him and asked if his grandchild had been born yet.  A man shopping for matching fabric and embroidery floss and asking for help and advice many times gets to be popular quickly.)

While Dick was gone I went for a bike ride to North Natomas along the car-free levee road for lunch and to get online. On my way home, I stopped at Phyl and Dave’s. Jerry and Carol from Bakersfield were visiting for the weekend. The guys love smoking their cigars.

  1. oh, the quilt came out so beautifully Arlete! You are a master embroiderer! I'm so sorry you couldn't go to the shower - I wanted to go too! Also, congrats on having a place to live! And your simple living and ability to make do with so few things is always an inspiration!

  2. Inspiration! Thanks, Nicole. That's a refreshing and welcome response. Most people, so far, don't understand how we can possibly live like this, let alone live happily. Eleven years ago, Dick was my inspiration to live more simply. Now he says I'm leading the way. Two plates and two bowls are plenty of dishes; when bicycle touring we ate out of the cooking pot.

  4. You made me laugh, Darren. It's bowls not bowels. Try fitting that into a poem. Great to hear from you. Since I haven't heard from you in a while, I assumed you must have lots of work for Cool Living Patios.
