To Garlets Corner

Because of a conversation last night about doughnuts, Ian got up early an brought back a dozen doughnuts and a 1/2-gallon of juice to share with us. The boys could not wait to see Dick's face this morning. The TART Trail crosses the downtown area Traverse City which is a very good thing. There are NO shoulders and, as far as we can tell, Michigan drivers do NOT like bicyclists. We've had more honking, unkind comments, and humans who bark like dogs here in Michigan than in all the previous 18,000 touring miles.

There are many simple roadside farm stands along the way using the honor system. Take what you want and put the money in a can.

On this farm, there were three barns filled up like this one plus many more bales stacked up on the ground. Getting ready for winter, I think.

Dick first ran into Anthony and Kat in Taylors Falls MN on 22 July and here they were again Mesick MI. They started in New York City on 25 Oct 09, rode south to the Florida Keys, west to San Diego, north to Vancouver BC, and now east to Bar Harbour ME before heading back to NYC to fly home to London England. You can read their blog at http://biketheborderline.blogspot.com.

Tonight we're in Garlets Corner (about 15 miles north of Wolf Lake), so small it doesn't show up on the official Michigan map, but there is a campground and a little cafe where we can have breakfast in the morning.

Miles completed = 3122
